SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 4 (Ticker) -- Tony Parker was a blur that could not be seen or stopped.

Parker sped to 18 points and eight assists as the San Antonio Spurs raced to a convincing 102-76 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, who lost their 15th straight visit to the Alamo City.

NBA TV highlights from
Cavaliers-Spurs: Play
Led by Parker, the defending champion Spurs established a tempo that simply could not be matched by the Cavaliers, who trailed by as many as 28 points as they were run out of the SBC Center in a nationally televised contest.

"We played with a lot of energy tonight," Parker said. "It went my way tonight and hopefully that will continue. We're starting the year right by playing good defense and rebounding well."

Cavaliers point guards Eric Snow and Damon Jones could not stay in front of Parker, who repeatedly got to the basket for layups for himself or teammates. The French flash made 9-of-16 shots and committed just one turnover.

At no time was Parker's advantage in quickness more evident than the third quarter, which the Spurs opened with a 15-5 run.

"He's quick as anything," Cavaliers superstar LeBron James said. "He may be the quickest in this league, a lot like (Allen) Iverson. He penetrated and made layups all night long.

"Defensively we have to come over and block some of those shots or at least make him alter his shot. That's something we can work on, but during a game you can't really focus on it too much or you'll get frustrated and it will start to affect you offensively."

Bruce Bowen began the surge with two free throws and a 3-pointer before Parker used his speed to set up Tim Duncan for a pair of easy buckets. A spinning drive by Manu Ginobili became a three-point play that gave San Antonio a 65-50 lead with 6:41 left.

"Tony Parker set the tone for us tonight," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He's been aggressive on both ends of the court. He's feeling confident in his play. He's really been a good leader. He's been calling a lot of plays and deciding what sets to be in. Tony played a smart game."

Parker added consecutive driving layups and found Brent Barry for a 3-pointer that made it 77-56 with 3 1/2 minutes left.

"I was successful tonight penetrating to the basket," Parker said. "I tried to make stuff happen out there. It depends on what they give you a lot of times. In the second half, we penetrated and took advantage of what they gave us."

Duncan had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Bowen scored 12 points for the Spurs, who shot a blistering 55 percent (44-of-80) and went to the line just eight times.

James scored 20 points and Drew Gooden added 14 for the Cavaliers, who shot 34 percent (28-of-82). They have not won in San Antonio since December 8, 1988, when the Spurs played in HemisFair Arena, David Robinson was still in the Navy and James was 3 years old.

Snow was scoreless in 21 minutes and Jones netted eight points in 26 minutes.

"The biggest difference between their team and us is that they keep it simple and play up-tempo," Snow said. "There are no surprises with that team. They never get rattled. Where you want to be as a team, that is where they (Spurs) are right now. Trust me, we plan to get there. We'll do the best we can to get there."

Parker's quickness sparked San Antonio to an early 11-2 lead, but Cleveland fought back behind James to take a 28-25 edge after one period.

Ginobili's 3-pointer gave the Spurs the lead for good at 42-41 with 3:35 remaining in the first half.

President Bush Praises Manu Ginobili

President George W. Bush heaped praise on Manu Ginobili in a speech in Mar del Plata, Argentina, where he met with President Kirchner of Argentina: "We've got all kinds of people in America -- Ginobili -- I don't know if you've heard of Manu Ginobili -- (laughter). He made a vital contribution to the basketball team from the state in which I live. But he's also a good ambassador for your country and people of Argentine heritage have contributed mightily to America and we're grateful for that."

That storm is huge. It doesn't look like its moved much since last night. It looks bigger though. These images are from www.weatherchannel.com
